Client Reviews

Yorkville Design did an excellent job of designing and organizing our kitchen renovation. They helped us with all of the big and little decisions. We have since had them design and organize three other rooms of our house. Thanks again for your help Thomas.

We worked with Yorkville Design to redo our kitchen and guest bathroom. We researched several leading kitchen cabinet suppliers and found Yorkville Design to be far above the others. They presented superior design approaches and offered invaluable insights to improve the layout and design. For example in the bathroom we had a difficult bathtub situation as we are in a condo and replacing the tub would have been difficult. They came up with a great solution to cover the tub in Ceasarstone with a unique lighting detail, and the final effect was beautiful.
The kitchen cabinets were planned, executed and installed expertly. Yorkville Design was detail-oriented, responsive, and helped us through all of the decisions to make the final result beautiful. We would highly recommend them—when our next project comes up we will definitely call on the Yorkville Design team to help us out!

We live in downtown Toronto and wanted to renovate our kitchen to reflect our lifestyle. My husband and I sourced a few companies to plan and design our home renovation which included an addition to the kitchen/dining room space and a new kitchen and outdoor patio space. We received designs and consultations from others but Yorkville design Centre was amazing from start to finish. Thomas, the architect and David, the designer at Yorkville Design Centre came to our home, listened carefully to our needs and concerns, asked many questions in a respectful and professional manner. and reviewed and measured the space.Within 2 weeks, we went to their showroom and were blown away be the amazing plans they had drawn for us. They were so creative in planning space and the design of the interior and exterior of the home. No one had ever proposed the concepts they produced. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL!. They introduced a transitional kitchen with modern & traditional design to tie in with our 100 year old home in downtown Toronto. It had plenty of light by opening the back of the home with floor to ceiling windows. By moving the wall to create a bigger kitchen, it created a wonderful flow from the kichen, the breakfast , dining space and patio. I loved the cabinets too. In addition to the plans, they showed us the materials, colors of the cabinetry, counters, etc. They were helpful in suggesting cost saving options and were always available and patient to answer questions or my silly concerns. Thomas and David are very talented, imaginative and creative but at the same time respectful of our needs and patient with our never ending questions. We cannot express the pleasure it has been to work with them on this project. We would highly recommended them.

Yorkville Design Centre provided me with a kitchen design as well as a backyard design. I found them to be timely, reasonably priced, innovative in their designs but most of all friendly and easy to work with.
I have recommended their services to friends who were also very pleased with them and I would recommend them again

We hired Thomas Tampold to design and manufacture our new kitchen in a condo and because of his creativity and problem- solving skills we expanded the work to include working drawings and our master bedroom dressing room. Thomas was invariably professional, available and helpful. We were impressed especially with his design ideas and we called upon him for advice that went beyond the contract. The quality of all the cabinets and of the installation were exceptional. We enjoyed working with Thomas and are delighted with the results.

Last year we gutted our kitchen and installed a Downsview Kitchen from Yorkville Design. I have nothing but praise for the service and quality we received. Thomas Tampold and his team pre-visualized a 3D mock up on the computer so we were able to "walk through" our future kitchen. They helped us with lighting and appliance selection, and all the other small details. Carefully measured, and working within our budget, they delivered a fully completed kitchen of world class quality and finish. We were so pleased with the final results that we are hiring them to design and install another kitchen at our cottage.
Simply put - they're the best in Toronto.

I will only use David for my design work and Downsview for my kitchen cabinetry. On two occations, I have worked with Yorkville Design Centre: consummate proffessionals. They are knowledgable, efficient and absolute pleasure to work with.

David Neff, who was recommended to me by a friend, was superb.  He came to the cabin and in minutes had prescribed a genius new furniture layout and a spectacular paint colour - transforming a very difficult room in to everyone's new favourite.  I felt badly because I sort of vanished on him, because I then fell into this move, but he really was EXACTLY what I was looking for.

I was a reluctant customer when it came to renovating my kitchen. I was referred to Yorkville design for their work. It was the best decision I made. They looked at my space, needs, and budget.  They gave me many options.  Best off all they answered all my questions and were there when I needed them. They helped me look at details and worked with my ideas and opinions.  They helped me make decisions on design from cupboards to tile, etc. They also, showed me many different suppliers to ensure that I found exactly what I wanted.

Thanks again for a great job, Mary Hountalas

David’s vision for my office far exceeded my own – and I’m an optometrist! Since hiring Yorkville Design Centre, I’ve been asked if my office could be featured in commercials by the Canadian Association of Optometry. Film scouts also asked permission to shoot: they wanted to film in a sophisticated, professional optometric office. Staff morale and sales have both increased since the office was re-imagined by the fabulous designers at Yorkville Design Centre.  The same design team responsible for my gorgeous office worked intimately with my family, sensitive to our individual needs and family dynamics. Our house is now one of a kind, a pleasure to come home to, to live, entertain, love and grow in.

Working with David Neff and the team at Yorkville Design made building our dream home a smooth and very enjoyable experience.  David listened to what was important to us and designed a home that was exactly what we had envisioned.  David is extremely organized and kept us always a step ahead of what the builder needed next so there was minimal down time: we never had to compromise on building materials or design.  David reviewed and altered our architectural plans to get the proper flow before the digging began, so very few changes needed to be made later.  We stayed very close to our budget because David knew where and when to spend the money.  His eye for colour is amazing.  Thank you for helping us build this perfect house.

We are thrilled with the design of our new home! The Yorkville design team was creative, knowledgeable and attentive to our needs and expectations.  True professionals, we felt very comfortable working together with them.  A pleasure to work with!

The Story of Yorkville Design Centre

Yorkville Design Centre was established in 1972, a Downsview Kitchens retailer from the beginning. Throughout its 40-plus years of existence, YDC has designed hundreds of kitchens, and lived through many periods of kitchen design, including the "Yellow Period" of the 1970s, the white-on-light-hardwood of the 80s, and the Bavarian castle traditional craze of the 1990s.

But throughout it all, the taste of the designers at YDC has always skewed contemporary, so when architect Thomas Tampold bought the company in 2008, he was happy to see that the rest of the world was finally catching up to them.

Thomas bought Yorkville Design Centre to pair with his architecture company, Tampold Architects Inc. He believes that "the interior should serve as an extension of the exterior, and vice versa. They should be separated by no more than necessary walls and panes of glass." This contemporary belief matched up very well with the newly changed attitudes of 2008 - traditional kitchens cost more money to build, and in the wake of the Great Recession, unnecessary expenditure was the last thing anyone wanted. Flaunting opulence has gone out of style, somewhat to the delight of the new owner of YDC.

After a 2009 showroom remodel, Yorkville Design Centre was ready to show off its stuff to the world, and show off it did. Since Thomas took over the company, YDC has designed nearly 100 kitchens, including over 40 full interiors. They realized a transformation of a century-old suburban house's exterior into a stunning contemporary piece (see here), and designed a house in North York from the ground up (pictures coming soon!). Professional clients have flocked to them, as well. YDC designed the corporate kitchen for the Onex head offices, working with the interior design firm Raymond Chiappetta Associates.  They also created the fabulous interior of the upscale steakhouse, Michael's on Simcoe, which plays host to numerous dinner parties for many stars during TIFF. Speaking of celebrities, they've designed home interiors for a couple of those, too!

Regardless of whether you want to redesign your kitchen, interior, or entire house, YDC's experienced team of designers will be there to give you the best advice possible. Senior designer David Neff has been working at YDC for over twenty years, drawing interiors at his desk in the front of the showroom through many periods. their team also includes designer Eliana Diamond and general manager Ragini Chopra, not to mention Thomas himself, who has been a practicing architect for over twenty-five years.

Yorkville Design Centre enters the second half of this decade with exciting opportunities ahead. Right now, we are designing 12 interiors for a new chain of juice bars with an urban contemporary style, and have many other projects lined up as well. If you want your home to be redesigned by one of the premier up-and-coming Toronto design firms, make sure to put YDC at the top of your list!
