Our Green Vision
An Eco-Friendly Company

Yorkville Design Centre uses Downsview Kitchens cabinetry exclusively.  One of the reasons we only specify Downsview Kitchens cabinets and doors is because of their stringent adherence to high standards of environmental protection in their choice of materials and processes.

Since its inception in 1967, DOWNSVIEW KITCHENS has considered good Environmental practices as core to its manufacturing processes. The manufacturing facilities, located in Mississauga, Ontario, represent the state of the art, utilizing the best equipment and latest technologies providing a safe and clean working environment for its employees while having minimal impact to the surrounding area.

Licensed by the Composite Panel Association of North America (CPA) as an EPP (Environmentally Preferable Product) Downstream Facility, DOWNSVIEW KITCHENS has achieved the ANSI (American National Standards Institute) accreditation.

What does this mean for you?

Products certified to CPA’s EPP Certification Program must demonstrate that they are made from 100% recycled and/or recovered fiber and meet strict formaldehyde emissions requirements. The fiber and emissions requirements are under continuous review to ensure they are responsive to market needs and stay ahead of the mainstream technology in the industry. The CPA is committed to serving the Green Building Community by continuing to develop durable, low emitting products that utilize recycled materials from renewable resources. Wood products bearing the CPA/EPP designation already exceed North America’s toughest emission standards as defined by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for 2009.

All the cabinet components used in the construction of their box 600 & 800 product lines are made with hardwood plywood manufactured with a formaldehyde free resin derived from soy. This proprietary technology, known as PureBond, is a non-toxic bonding agent that is considered to be the leading choice in the industry. Highly recommended by EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), PureBond panel products can also contribute to points under the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) green building rating system. It is also certified to meet the exacting phase 2 formaldehyde emission limits of the California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulation.

Choice of materials and processes always represents a significant challenge for any manufacturer. As long as DOWNSVIEW KITCHENS continues to lead the industry, balancing the necessary respect for our environment while producing beautiful cabinets and doors able to withstand the rigours of daily use for many years to come, Yorkville Design Centre will continue its exclusive relationship with this outstanding supplier.
