Estonian Beach House

Nestled on the Estonian shore of the Gulf of Finland, this beach house was designed for a family of four. A piece of contemporary architecture, the home was made to coexist with the forest surrounding it, while still representing coastal motifs. Clear blue glass and light wood face the shore, with that same wood opening up into the backyard forest. The west-facing wall of the leisure space is a sequence of windows, allowing you to watch the midnight sun while playing a game, watching TV or cooking. When gathered around the firepit at night, it almost seems like a campfire. Your options for enjoying the summer weather in this cottage are almost endless.

The home also includes a transitional space between deck and house that is big enough to hold our clients' boat, while still providing sufficient space for a walkway. The upstairs hasn't been shunned outside access, either. A balcony on one side overlooks the deck, while a full-blown terrace rests above the garage. The design takes one of the fundamental pillars of contemporary design—creating harmony between nature and architecture—and runs with it, creating amazing results.

Edenbridge Home

Many things in this house were changed—the whole south wing, as well as part of the second floor. The existing kitchen turned into a hallway/powder room/closet space; the garage and sunroom were converted into a great open concept space with kitchen, dining and living area; the old pool was transformed into a man cave for the husband with a golf simulator and a two-car garage; upstairs, the bathroom was redesigned, as well as the walk-in closet in the master bedroom.

We had lots of fun working with the client on this project designing the new spaces, sourcing materials and furniture. We supplied and installed all cabinetry for the kitchen and helped the client with all the finishing touches. Note the design detail of the windows in the kitchen—we aligned the kitchen counter so the countertop could flow into the glass. The copper hood was custom made by our stainless steel provider and it brings a really nice focus to the centre of the kitchen. Our client was very happy with the end result; we even got invited back for dinner.

Peterborough Farm House

As interior designers, space planners and decorators, we worked together with Architect Bill Hurst to design this Peterborough farmhouse. Our clients were building the family farmhouse together with their children; they wanted a Canadian oasis when visiting Canada while here on vacation or work.

It was important that everyone had their own little getaway within the house; therefore, we worked with each family member individually to design their bedroom and bathroom by selecting their colour scheme and sourcing furniture and plumbing fixtures. All of us had to collaborate as a team for the common spaces, such as the kitchen, great room and basement bar. Of course, it’s always a challenge working with so many great minds, but we managed to put it all together in the end.

Yorkville Design Centre did the space planning, decoration, furniture sourcing, plumbing sourcing, material sourcing (for both exterior and interior), cabinetry design and lighting layout.
